Have significant hearing loss in one or both ears ?
Do you need a hearing implant?
Why Cochlear implants?
Cochlear implants can benefit people with severe to profound hearing loss, particularly those who do not benefit from hearing aids. They can also be helpful for people who were born deaf or who lost their hearing early in life, as they can help with speech and language development.
Are Cochlear implants the right option for you?
Do you:
Have difficulty hearing conversations, especially with background noise?
Have a congenital or inherited hearing problem
Often find yourself asking people to repeat themselves?
Have trouble hearing on the telephone?
Turn up the TV volume louder than others in the room are comfortable with?
Feel people often mumble when they talk?
Struggle to hear sounds of nature, such as birds chirping or rain falling?
Withdraw from conversations and social interaction because it's too difficult to hear?
Read lips to understand what people are saying?
How does it work?
While hearing aids make sounds louder, cochlear implants bypass the damaged part of the ear to stimulate the hearing nerve directly. Cochlear implants are electronic devices surgically implanted into the inner ear to help people with severe or profound hearing loss. The device bypasses the damaged or non-functioning parts of the ear. It directly stimulates the auditory nerve, which sends signals to the brain to perceive sound.
Cochlear implants have two main components: the internal implant and the external processor. The internal implant is surgically placed under the skin behind the ear. It has electrodes placed inside the Cochlea the part of the inner ear responsible for hearing. The external processor, worn on the ear, captures the sound and sends it to the internal implant, stimulating the auditory nerve.
