How Shire Hearing Began
2008
Rachel founded Shire Hearing on a part-time basis,
working just two days a week from a single room inside
an optometrist’s office in Cronulla.
With a newborn baby at home, she was determined to build a hearing clinic where people
felt genuinely cared for and supported.
2010
As the business grew, Shire Hearing moved into a new complex in Cronulla, becoming our main headquarters. Rachel began building the team and foundation for what Shire Hearing would become.
2020
Rachel became even more determined to continue building the compassionate, community-focused practice they had created together.
The Engadine clinic was relocated to a larger facility, transforming from a visiting site into a full clinic with three clinic rooms and a dedicated earwax removal room.
Today
Shire Hearing now operates two fully staffed locations in Cronulla and Engadine, with a dedicated team of audiologists, clinicians, and support staff.
We’ve helped over 10,000 Australians across the Sutherland Shire hear better.

Hear it for yourself
“My introduction to Shire Hearing was with my mother who lives in Cronulla, I live in Wollongong. Rachel was very caring with my mother who will be 99 on Anzac Day 2020.
My experience with hearing aids started when I mentioned my tinnitus, during the conversation I realised Rachel was very knowledgeable and she told me when I started to lose my hearing, wearing hearing aids would help. They did!”
We had a lovely experience from booking to assessment. The clinic is accessible and they had loads of availability at the Engadine location. The assessor was gentle and relaxed and created a calm and fun environment for our child. 5 stars 🌟
Honestly the most amazing place to get your hearing tests done ✅. I’ve never felt more welcomed & safe before & highly highly recommend the lovely Krystal @ Engadine Clinic. Such great service and knowledge , I couldn’t recommend enough. Please choose Shire hearing Engadine for your next appointment ❤️.
What a great and calm experience! Krystal connected straight away with my toddler son, She took the time to play and engage with my son other than just for testing.
Usually my son is hard to get to cooperate with visual assessments of his ears, but he was happy and comfortable with Krystal.
Would highly recommend Shire Hearing Engadine!
Krystal at Shire Hearing was fantastic with our two neurodiverse boys. She had them cooperating, engaged and interested. And she picked up a previously unknown issue so we can look into it further. Fantastic experience and service!
They are amazing. Any issue with hearing aids they fix for free. Even if it’s just changing the filters. When I was choosing my new hearing aids they lent programmable ones to try and compare. I got the top ones in the end. The programs on the App are also designed just for me which helps adjusting in noisy environments.

General FAQs
Our free screening takes just 5 minutes. If a more comprehensive assessment is needed, it may take up to an hour. We never rush. You’ll have time to ask questions.
Absolutely not. Our goal is to help you understand your hearing health. If hearing aids are recommended, we’ll discuss your options, but there’s never any pressure to purchase.
Hearing aids typically range from $3,600 to $9,000 for a pair, depending on the technology level. During your trial, you’ll experience different options so you can choose what fits your needs and budget.
Yes. We provide servicing, maintenance, and repairs for most hearing aid brands for a fee. We can also help you transition your care from another provider to Shire Hearing.
We’re 100% independent and family-owned. We’re not tied to any hearing aid manufacturer, which means we can recommend the best solution for your needs from multiple leading brands.
While some basic amplifiers are available online, proper hearing aids require professional fitting, programming, and ongoing adjustments to work effectively. DIY devices can actually worsen hearing issues or delay proper treatment. We’re here to ensure you get it right the first time.
Research shows that treating hearing loss can significantly reduce the risk of cognitive decline and dementia. While hearing aids aren’t a guarantee, they help keep your brain stimulated and socially engaged, both crucial for brain health.
Hearing aids can help manage tinnitus for many people by improving overall hearing and providing sound enrichment. While they may not eliminate tinnitus completely, they often reduce its impact and make it less noticeable.
Age alone doesn’t disqualify you. If you have severe hearing loss that hearing aids can’t help, cochlear implants can be suitable even for seniors. We’ll assess your individual situation and discuss whether you’re a candidate.
