Have significant hearing loss in one or both ears ?

Do you need a hearing implant?

Why Bone Anchored Implant (BAHA)?

Cochlear implants can benefit people with severe to profound hearing loss, particularly those who do not benefit from hearing aids. They can also be helpful for people who were born deaf or who lost their hearing early in life, as they can help with speech and language development.

Is BAHA the right option for you?

Do you:

  • Have difficulty hearing conversations, especially with background noise?

  • Have a congenital or inherited hearing problem

  • Often find yourself asking people to repeat themselves?

  • Have trouble hearing on the telephone?

  • Turn up the TV volume louder than others in the room are comfortable with?

  • Feel people often mumble when they talk?

  • Struggle to hear sounds of nature, such as birds chirping or rain falling?

  • Withdraw from conversations and social interaction because it's too difficult to hear?

  • Read lips to understand what people are saying?

How does it work?

A Bone Anchored Implant (BAHA) is a type of hearing aid that uses a surgically implanted titanium fixture to transmit sound to the inner ear through bone conduction. This technology is typically used for individuals with hearing loss due to problems with the middle or outer ear and who cannot use traditional hearing aids. Like a cochlear implant, a BAHA consists of an external component worn just off the ear and a surgically implanted component that sits entirely under the skin.

Are you a good candidate for BAHA?

Overall, the BAHA system is a safe and effective option for individuals with certain types of hearing loss. However, like any surgical procedure, it carries some risks, and only some are good candidates. It's important to discuss the pros and cons of the BAHA system with an audiologist to determine if it's the right option for you.
